The first coaching session should help you understand the needs of the clients and what they hope to achieve. This is an opportunity to learn more about the person and why they requested your services in the first place. It's a great way to make a great first impression on the relationship between coach and client. In my early days as a coach, when I wasn't spending enough time in this scenario, I wondered why clients thought it was okay to be late for sessions or, even worse, to cancel sessions at the last minute and not expect to pay for them, which ultimately led to a break in the entire relationship as a coach in which neither party benefited.
You may start the session once you've agreed on the number of sessions you'll work on together and some general coaching objectives, but in this session you'll clarify some specific initial objectives of a coaching program and how the program can be structured and pre-programmed (if you have one).
